Think cool temperatures, delightful desserts and dark verse and you’re sure to find them at the Drunk Poet’s Society Halloween in Verse event at the Bellaire Club. Come on over and share your original or borrowed poetry suitable for the holiday, or use the open mike to scare up a really good time. Festivities begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 29. There will be ghoulish desserts served and sold, in an awesome auction that’s the best of the year! Costumes are optional! Spread the word and bring a friend.

SPECIAL – Weekend at Bellaire’s (thanks to Arch A.)

Big news this week is the Bellaire Club’s Drunk Poets Society’s open mike poetry reading event Saturday at 8:00 PM. Read your original work or something that appeals to you or simply sit back and enjoy a stimulating and entertaining evening. There will be Halloween snacks to enjoy and a cake/sweet auction throughout the evening so you can take some home. This has been a very popular event in the past, so come on out and see what it is all about if you have not ever attended one.

If you have attended meetings at the Bellaire Club where the leader calls for volunteers to share, which is followed usually by a moment of silence, you will hear someone interject, “Where is Davasha?” Davasha S. always made sure precious meeting time was not wasted in silence and would always speak up. Some time ago she moved to Santa Fe to lend her award winning chef skills to a family restaurant there. The great news for us is that Davasha is coming home! Back to Houston and to the Bellaire Club she has loved so dearly.  The time frame is sometime between now and the annual New Year’s Eve special meeting.  Welcome home.

Alice G. will be leading the Friday Two Dollar Meeting at 12:15 this week. Don’t forget Taco John’s regular Saturday Noon Meeting and the Saturday Speakers Meeting that features compelling speakers at 5:30.

The Sunday 11:00 AM Speaker’s Meeting will feature Monika B. will sharing her 28 years of productive sobriety with us. Monika comes to us from The Journey Group, but is also a familiar face at other groups and clubs about town, including the Heights Group.

This being birthday week, the Sunday Noon Meeting chaired by David D. will be led by Mary F.

If human beings had genuine courage, they’d wear their costumes every day of the year, not just on Halloween. – Doug Coupland
