Week of April 12 – 18

In Memoriam
Adele B.

Adele B., whose face was familiar to all who ever bought anything from the coffee bar died in her apartment last weekend. The family announced that an autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday and that funeral plans are pending. Our hearts go out to her family and to all in her AA family who loved her dearly. She will be missed.
An impromptu temporary memorial to Adele has started on the coffee bar. Flowers, notes, poems, photos, mementoes, etc. are welcomed.
The Bellaire Club will have a Memorial Meeting for Adele B. on Sunday, April 15 at 1:30 PM. Please help spread the word.

31st BELLAIRE CLUB ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION COUNTDOWN

Looks like a lot of the First Annual Chili Cook-Off entry forms have been turned in so we should have some good competition going on. All the better for those who get to sample the offerings. If you plan to enter your chili don’t forget the deadline for getting your entry form in is SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 2012. That is this coming Saturday. Festivities begin after Taco John’s Saturday Noon Meeting on April 28.
There was some question as to why contestants had to show up by 11:00 when eating would not begin until 2:00. Chili Queen whose realm is the Chili Cook-Off, Mary F. says that 11:00 AM allows participants time to decorate their space, reheat and prepare their chili for judging. Judging will be between 1:30 and 2:00.
No, there is no category for Road-Kill Chili.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Board of Directors has asked for members to volunteer to help with the coffee bar and with opening and closing the club each day. A sign-up sheet will be appearing soon.

PRACTICE THESE PRINCIPLES. . .

Don’t forget to pay for your coffee, water or soft drinks when you take them. Remember all drinks are $1.00. A good way to remember to pay is to pay BEFORE you take your drink.  And speaking of coffee, have you noticed that cinnamon is now available to sprinkle into your coffee? Not only will it taste good, but there are supposed to be certain health benefits to be gained as well.

CRYSTAL BALL GAZING

The Bellaire Club’s Drunk Poet’s Society has announced that its Spring offering, If It’s Not One Thing It’s Your Mother will be held Saturday, May 12. Time to write or polish that poem or make plans to attend. Professional graphic artist Baroque F. has agreed to design the flyer for us, so we may be in for a treat for the eyes as well as for the ears. Remember, if poetry is not your forte, there will be cake auctions as well to inspire and display your creativity and to raise funds for the club. More details will follow as time approaches.

BELLAIRE CLUB MEMORIES: DARKEST BEFORE THE DAWN, NEVER SAY DIE, NOSE TO THE GRINDSTONE, DON’T EXPECT A MIRACLE, ETC. ETC.

What follows are the notes of Mark Z., President of the Board of Trustees of the Bellaire Club during the crucial search, negotiations and final move and renovation of our new facility. As you will see, we owe much to Mark and all involved in the process. Certainly enough to make our anniversary celebration a lot more joyful.
