BELLAIRE CLUB NEWSLETTER

February 7th, 2013

Greetings all!
We have a few updates, so into the wild blue!….(speaking of updates, if there are new chairs or leaders, please let us know at bellaire@bellaireclub.net , Some of you have, but it would also help greatly if you please include the actual date the update is for as well. Thanks!!)
DRUNK POETS SOCIETY

For its third quarterly outing, The Bellaire Club’s Drunk Poets Society will sponsor an open mike poetry reading event Saturday, February 9th. An open mike reading means there is no invited slate of readers and that the podium is open to anyone who would care to read. There will be a numbered sign-up sheet either in the hands of our seasoned moderator, David D. or placed in a convenient spot. Just ask around. When the show begins, the moderator will call the names of those who signed in numbered order and each will come to the podium and read. A three poem limit is suggested with a nine or ten minute total of reading. There is usually a brief intermission.

This has become a proven outlet for that creative urge and has with proper advertisement drawn participants from all over the Houston area. Even if a theme is announced, all participants are free to read whatever they chose to read, original or the work of others.

As always, we need readers but we also need an audience there to enjoy the readings. You will be surprised by what comes out of some of the people you see at meetings all the time. It has been observed that we are a sensitive lot. Poetry is one way of venting those feelings. Being a good listener is a way of sharing those feelings.  All of this will begin Saturday, February 9th at 8:00 PM.

I hope you consider joining me at the 50 Years of Miracles Convention, March 8-10. This convention is going to have more going on at it than any I’ve ever seen or heard about. You can register at www.aahouston.org.

The convention is being held at the Westin, Memorial City which is a beautiful hotel – An AAA 4 Diamond beauty that normally goes for $229-$279 per night. The special convention rate is $92. The speakers include (Friday night) Dave J. whose father, Larry J. was responsible for bringing A.A. to Houston and then having it spread throughout Texas. Dave’s been sober over 56 years now and really has some stories to tell. There’s going to be a huge talent show and we’ll be showing movies including the new Bill W. Documentary and Flight. Of all of the conventions around…this one simply shouldn’t be missed. I hope to see you register. Let me know if you have any questions. (Sent in by Mary F.)

Meeting Announcements

The Women’s Hope & Healing meeting for January, Mondays at 12:00 noon in the small meeting room, will be chaired by Stephanie D.

Tuesday Noon there is a Meeting and is really needing some support.

Tuesday Night 8:00PM is Scottish Jack’s Big Book Study with Scott T. at the helm. It’s always a great weeknight meeting, and for those of you who haven’t opened your
Big Book lately…here’s your chance.

Wednesday 6:30am “Red-eye Special” meeting. It’s a small but happy meeting that really needs the support of a few more early risers. Thanks!

Also the Wednesday ‘nooner’ meeting is being headed up by …oops, no updates yet! It is happening though.:-)

Also needing an update on who is handling the Wednesday 8:00 ask-it basket this month.

The Doug D’B Meeting on Thursday 8:00 is always a great meeting to catch. Besides that, Doug’s accidental irreverent wit will kep you in stitches.

Ann N. is chairing the Friday Two Dollar Meeting (12:15) for the month of January, with Mary H leading. Please come and bring someone with you!

Friday Night 8:00 is the “We’ve Just Begun” meeting. This is a great meeting if you are new to sobriety, and really looking for others to connect with.
Besides finding others that are new, you will find others with long term sobriety that come especially to be of some kind of service to newcomers. If you are looking
for a sponsor, this is also a good meeting to find one in.

Adam S. chairs the Sunday Noon Meeting (12:15) in February. This Sunday, February 10th, Margaret D, will be leading the meeting.

Al M. chairs the Sunday 11:00 Speaker Meeting. February 10th, at 11:00 AM, at The Bellaire Club
David D. whose home group is the Men’s Center downtown, will be telling his story, (sober since April of 2007).

It helps to be redundant with this one: Friday and Sunday “noon” meetings start at 12:15 and end at 1:15.

If you’re new to the mailing list, definitely head back to the our main website and check the meeting schedule for other meetings listed.
Also, let us know if you have something special going on in your home group, or you wish to announce any changes within a certain meeting.
Send it to bellaire@bellairclub.net
Just get it in no later than Wednesday night by around 10:00pm.

Have yourself a great day…unless of course, you’ve made other plans.

So far, that’s about it for now. More to come!
