October 10th, 2013

Greetings all!

I wonder if this is why there aren’t as many Sober Anniversaries in October?
Hmmmm. Guess many of us needed our “fun”…yes, I used to call this fun! 😉

Join the Bellaire Club” – $20.00 per month or $200 for the year.

It’s a great way to participate in your recovery by giving back
and to help keep the doors open at the Bellaire Club.
It helps us
purchase supplies, pay utilities, literature and Big Books, etcetera.

Another Fireside Chat with….
The President…of the Bellaire Club

I was a child during World War II when almost everything was rationed. (I still have my ration coupon book!) Cars and appliances were particularly hard to come by,
but my father managed to acquire a huge brand new refrigerator for us. (He knew how to vote in Louisiana.) He believed it had to reach its required temperature uninterrupted so my brother and I stood in front of it like puppy dogs waiting for someone to open it so we could see what it looked like inside. Well, we, too, will be getting a new refrigerator at the Bellaire Club. I mean we will be getting a RE-FRIG-E-RATER! Not some ordinary kitchen appliance, but a professional, commercial cooler. And you won’t have to stand in front of it wondering what is
inside because it has a glass door! Yes, it is just like the appliance you used to grab your beers from on the way to work. It will be delivered this coming Tuesday all ready for viewing. It will have a decorative panel at the top discretely displaying the brand name. This panel can be removed and replaced with one of our own design.
SOOO0000oooooo, if we have any Graphic Designers among us, please let me know so we can develop a Bellaire Club design for it.
For a week after delivery if you like it, please put in a little extra in the money drop. If you don’t like it, put in a two dollar bill.  You have probably noticed other changes about the club. Your board has been behind the scenes busy as termites! We have the beginning of the chair rail solution in the main meeting room and the black spot will be painted out for now. More dramatic measures have been proposed for the future. Keep coming back. The storeroom has now been secured Larry A. with a steel door. With a very limited number of keys out, it will be easy to keep our supplies secure.
Emergency supplies will always be found on the new shelves (again, thanks to Larry A.) under the kitchen counter. Since they are parked in the hall, I’m sure you have noticed the new, steel shelving units (thanks to Jeff T.) that will go into the storeroom to utilize the space to its capacity. You cannot help but notice the improvement in the appearance of the kitchen, thanks to Alice G. and her crews. The plan is to ultimately do away with the kitchen counter being used as a bulletin board. A real bulletin board will soon appear on the wall between the doors to accommodate updates, sign-up sheets, etc. Our new meeting schedules will find a home on the meeting room desks and other spots about the club. All of this “behind the scenes” undertakings are in anticipation of what we hope will be the best holiday celebrations ever. Plans are brewing for a spectacular Thanksgiving feast. (Remember we have Labor Day to live up to.) This to be followed by Hanukkah, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the cherry on the top, our famous annual New Year’s Eve Meeting.
But wait, there’s more! We are hoping to have a Valentine Dance in February and later a Prom Night themed dance for all who were in jail, detention or too stoned or too drunk to remember theirs. Complete with chocolate ice cream sodas made with freshly made Dutch chocolate syrup, real whipped cream and a stemmed cherry on the top. Of course we will do something  for our club anniversary. Stick around. Please join us, if you have not already. Become part of the joy of being sober.

Keep those updates comin’ folks!
